The Russian government will consider in a special subcommittee an initiative to increase import duties on wines from NATO countries to 200%. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko. TASS.
“We support counter-sanctions against unfriendly states. “Therefore, we will evaluate this initiative within the framework of the subcommittee on customs and tariff regulation of the Ministry of Economic Development,” he said.
Russian Association of Vintners and Winegrowers in March appealed to the authorities with a request to impose a 200% import duty on wines from NATO countries and to cancel the preferential treatment for wine products imported from Georgia.
The Council of Ministers increased import customs duties on wine products from unfriendly countries from 12.5% to 20%, to an amount of not less than 1.5 dollars per liter. This measure was implemented as of August 1, 2023, first until the end of 2023, and then its effect was extended until 2024.
