The main vector of strategic development for Sber on the 2026 horizon was to focus on people-centricity. Tatyana Zavyalova, Sberbank’s Senior Vice President for ESG, explained how to apply this principle on the ESG path.

“It is absolutely impossible to talk about human-centeredness in strategic management other than the principles of sustainable development. “This is a new business vision that takes into account the value of people and improves the quality of life in the long term,” he said.

According to him, sustainable development is based on understanding both present and future human needs. Zavyalova emphasized that Sber is in constant dialogue with its customers and partners to understand these demands.

According to the bank, around 40% of Russians’ needs are related to the ESG agenda. For example, many people are worried about environmental problems: air pollution worries 60% of people, water pollution 57% and uncontrolled consumption of natural resources 50%.

“We know that almost a third of Russians take responsibility for the environmental agenda, including the business community. Focusing on people-centricity involves our participation, contribution and timely response to society’s needs in the form of tailored tools and solutions,” said Zavyalova.

According to him, Sber plans to work with customers and partners specifically for each region, creating tailored initiatives, solutions and tools towards targeted sustainable development goals.

“Not only good deeds, but also the jobs needed by people, businesses, the region and the country are the key to our people-oriented approach. Ultimately, we want all stakeholders to feel an impact; A measurable improvement in life, business activities, socio-economic development from contact with Sber initiatives or cooperation with the bank,” said Sberbank’s senior vice president for ESG.

Thus, the goals of the bank’s three-year ESG strategy, calculated until 2026, include increasing the number of customers classified as responsible consumers from 4.7 million to 6.5 million people, as well as expanding cooperation with regions within the scope of regional cooperation. ESG conversion from 61 to 70.

As Zavyalova emphasized, Sber aims to be a reliable assistant for people in managing the present and the sustainable future, with the help of digital technologies and new generation artificial intelligence.
