Russia is ready to resume oil supplies to Japan under normal conditions, especially if it abandons the price ceiling mechanism. He said this in an interview TASS Russian Ambassador to Japan Nikolai Nozdrev.
The diplomat recalled that Japan has always considered cooperation with Russia in the oil and gas sector as one of the main areas of diversification. Over the years, the neighboring state has imported sufficient amounts of Russian gas and oil. Such cooperation ended following Tokyo’s decision to join the price cap mechanism.
According to Nozdrev, in the spring of 2023, Japanese companies actually stopped buying Russian oil altogether because they were afraid of US sanctions.
“We will be ready to continue this cooperation under normal conditions in line with international commercial practices,” the Russian Ambassador emphasized.
After the start of Russia’s special military operation, Japan, like many other allies of the United States, joined anti-Russian sanctions. Tokyo at the beginning of March this year entry Sanctions against 12 individuals and 36 organizations linked to the Russian Federation.
