Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of South Asia, said that the sanctions of the European Union and G7 countries on the import of Russian diamonds, which came into effect in March, have affected the Indian diamond industry. His words guide the way Economic Times.
“The Government of India sees it as a priority to resolve the issue arising from the EU and G7 countries’ ban on imports of rough diamonds from Russia, which is hurting India’s diamond cutting industry,” the diplomat said.
Jaishankar said the country is holding collective and bilateral talks on the issue. It is important for New Delhi to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
Russia is the world’s largest producer of rough diamonds. The export volume of this product in 2022 is estimated to be 4.7 billion dollars.
