Russian banks will continue to issue plastic cards

Russian banks are not yet ready to abandon the use of plastic cards and payment labels in favor of digital cards. They talked about it RIA News in credit institutions.

The bank issued more than 15 million cards last year, more than 3 million of which were digital, VTB press service said. The bank has already issued 3.4 million cards, both plastic and digital, in 2024. They stated that customers prefer the classic version.

Director of Retail Products at Dom.RF Bank Daria Morozova said that their bank will not reduce the volume of plastic cards issued, as not all customers want to abandon them completely.

PSB press service noted that last year the bank increased the volume of issued plastic cards by 1.5 times due to the growth of its customer base, including in new regions of the Russian Federation.

In March, Russia’s Environmental Operator (REO) proposed reducing the amount of plastic waste in Russia, including encouraging organizations to implement information solutions instead of using plastic cards and paper money receipts.
