The agency noted that shutting down the first reactor had no impact on safety or the environment. The reason for the failure has not yet been determined; experts are working on this. Unit 2 is temporarily operating at 100 MW instead of the nominal 440 MW due to problems with the pump.
Repairs have already begun and once completed the power unit will be restored to full capacity without endangering safety or the environment.

Szijjártó also reminded that the actual construction of two new nuclear power units started in August 2023. An anti-seepage curtain has been installed to protect the foundation pit from groundwater, and work is ongoing to strengthen the soil on the site for the fifth and sixth blocks. According to the current plan, the first concrete will be poured at the beginning of 2025, perhaps at the end of this year.
