The pilot project on digital rubles in Russia needs to be expanded. This was stated by the head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, answering the question of the socialbites.ca correspondent during a press conference.
“As for the development of the digital ruble project, we are currently in the experimental phase, there is a limited group of participants and so far few people are participating in the experiment, about 60 people, but we believe that it will come true. needs to be expanded. People’s general attitude towards the digital ruble depends on the type of relationship. There are people who express doubts or concerns, and there are people who like to use different innovations,” Nabiullina said.
He emphasized that the use of digital rubles should be strictly voluntary.
“We are also discussing with the Treasury how to use digital rubles in the budget process,” the Central Bank president said.
As previously reported by the Central Bank, the mass introduction of the digital ruble will begin no earlier than 2025. Currently, a group of Bank of Russia employees and customers of 13 banks is participating in the experiment. It is planned to increase the number of participants in 2024, but it will still be limited. On December 8, 2023, Russian Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov expressed confidence that in 2024 all Russians will be able to try to open a digital wallet to pay with digital rubles.
