The Ministry of Industry and Trade is investigating the possibility of increasing the permissible share of the presence of large retail chains in the regions from the current 25% to 35%. Deputy head of the department Viktor Evtukhov spoke about this, the newspaper reported. “News”.

According to Evtukhov, following the request to the regions, 21 organizations have already supported changes to trade law norms. The other 13 regions proposed giving them the authority to set this threshold for retailers’ presence in the local market.

“Increasing the threshold value to 35 percent will increase the sales of domestic goods, expand the product range and increase price competition. However, the ministry recognizes that the increase in the share of federal chains can negatively affect the work of small and medium-sized businesses in retail. “When a new chain store opens, people gravitate towards it. Small traders lose momentum and often close,” Evtukhov noted.
