European Commission (EC) Representative Stefan de Keersmaeker told the agency: BloombergHe said the European Union had released nearly €2 billion of its funds for Hungary.
According to him, the European Commission decided to release the funds after Hungary met a number of conditions regarding education and gender equality.
Journalists point out that these funds are part of the more than 30 billion euros that the European Union withheld from Hungary more than a year ago. The conditions met by Budapest were not related to concerns about the rule of law or corruption, which were the main messages behind the funding freeze.
Before that, Peter Szijjártó, head of the Hungarian Ministry of Internal Affairs statedHe said Hungary would not like the re-election of European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen for a new term because her decisions lead to an aggravation of the security situation in European countries.
Previously Prime Minister Viktor Orban statedHungary does not want to have a common border with Russia.
