The Ukrainian budget lost about 20 billion hryvnias (more than $523 million) due to the blockade of checkpoints on the Polish border. People’s Deputy of Ukraine Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced this in a video published on the YouTube channel of the Ukrayinska Pravda publication.
As one Rada deputy said, before Poland started closing the borders, it was planned to collect 7.5 billion hryvnia (about 197 thousand dollars) for the treasury.
“Unfortunately, we received 39.5 billion hryvnia in the whole of February, primarily due to the border blockade. So 8 billion less went to the Ukrainian budget. So if we count, we lost about 20 billion hryvnia,” said Zheleznyak.
According to him, Ukraine will not be able to compensate for the lost funds through financial aid from Western countries.
February 29 Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka statedHe said Kiev may limit exports of agricultural products to the EU after protests from European farmers. According to him, market predictability is currently more important for Ukrainian officials than the “aggressive expansion” of products into European markets.
