The Moscow Basmanny District Court began considering the criminal case against the former co-owners of the sanctioned Trust Bank. The newspaper writes that we are talking about Sergei Belyaev and Nikolai Fetisov “Kommersant”.

According to journalists, former financiers are accused of withdrawing 14.6 billion rubles from the credit institution. Currently, these people are on the international wanted list, so their cases are being evaluated in absentia.

Before that, three more defendants were convicted in this case: the bank’s former co-owner Ilya Yurov, former financial director Evgeny Ramakov and former chairman of the board of directors Oleg Dikusar. The first was sentenced to eight years in absentia, the second to four years, and the third to seven years.

Moreover, a criminal case was opened against Belyaev and Fetisov nine years ago. The basis for this was the appeal of representatives of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, who discovered signs of withdrawal of assets in the activities of the Foundation.

“To achieve this, the bank used schemes to provide loans to borrowers who were not engaged in real economic activities, as well as financing investment projects that did not generate income.” The size of the gap in the Trust’s balance sheet is estimated at 114 billion rubles, the publication says.

By the time the investigation identified the culprits as former co-owners of the credit institution, they had already left abroad. Presumably the old financiers are in England.

As a result, the men were placed on the international wanted list. The Moscow Tverskoy District Court decided to arrest the bank’s three former co-owners, Fetisov, Belyaev and Yurov, in absentia.

“According to the investigation, crimes were committed” <…> In the period between April 24, 2012 and December 3, 2014,” the publication explains.

During the investigation, Yurov was detained twice. He was detained on the territory of Ukraine in 2016 and in the United Kingdom in 2018. But in both cases, local authorities refused the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to extradite the former financier, and so the Moscow Basmanny District Court sentenced him to eight years in prison in absentia.

In fact, the authority is now considering the same materials, but in relation to Fetisov and Belyaev. The article emphasizes that the process started on February 27.
