More and more Russian companies are resorting to the practice of “silent recruitment”, which offers new vacancies to existing employees instead of looking for candidates from outside. This was reported by “Kommersant” Citing a study of the Lerna.ru platform.
According to the research, this approach is used by almost one in every two companies, especially large enterprises in the banking, finance and construction sectors.
The majority of respondents indicate that the main reason for “silent hiring” is difficulties in recruiting personnel in the external labor market. One-third of survey respondents say they save time and money when searching for applicants. In some companies, 40 to 60% of vacancies are filled through internal transfers.
However, companies point out that “silent hiring” also has its drawbacks. The main ones are the lack of knowledge among employees for new tasks, the blurring of roles in the team and the lack of flow of new ideas from outside. However, respondents predict that the share of “silent” hires will increase as external hiring becomes more difficult.
TechnoNIKOL HR director Yulia Korochkina gives an example: “The success of the internal relocation program is in constant focus; the share of “silent” hires increased from 7% in 2017 to 88% in 2023.”
