Significantly fewer new individual investment accounts (IIAs) have been opened in Russia since the beginning of 2024, the newspaper reported. “Kommersant” (“Kommersant”).
Thus, 8.2 thousand new IISs were opened in January 2024. More than 21 thousand, that is, 2.5 times more, were opened in the previous year.
The decline in interest in individual investment accounts, the publication notes, can be attributed to both the general cooling of investors towards the stock market, which occurred against the background of high deposit rates, and the emergence of a new form of IIS to replace it. Two pre-existing account options.
Investors see uncertainty about tax conditions in new types of individual investment accounts, as well as risks of early return of funds on unattractive terms. Therefore, customer growth with IIS is expected to be relatively low this year.
