G7 countries are trying to limit Russia’s ability to use its “shadow fleet” of tankers to export oil. The agency reports that Bloomberg Referring to the words of the representative of the British Sanctions Office, Olga Dimitrescu.

According to him, the goal of the G7 is to force Russia to return to using tankers, insurers and other services of Western companies that comply with sanctions.

After the West imposed a ceiling on oil prices, Russia created a huge fleet of hundreds of tankers with the help of unknown traders. This allowed it to export oil from G7 countries without the need for ships, insurance or financing.

The G7 is discussing with other governments the risks of Russia’s use of a “shadow fleet”. The EU has also restricted the sale of old tankers to unknown owners, making it difficult to renew the “shadow fleet”.

Dimitrescu added that the United States plans to tighten sanctions against tankers and companies that violate restrictions on the trade of Russian oil in the second quarter.

Before that, sea deliveries of crude oil from Russia rescued after two weeks of outage.
