The Amsterdam Court of Appeal postponed the decision in the Yukos oil company case for a week, from 13 February to 20 February 2024. This was reported by court press secretary Melissa Zijlstra. RIA News
Earlier, presiding judge Vanner Los said that the decision would be announced on February 13. However, Zijlstra announced that the date has now been postponed to February 20.
In 2014, an arbitration court in The Hague found that the Russian Federation deliberately bankrupted YUKOS and awarded nearly $50 billion in damages to three companies. Shareholders attempted to recover these funds in the UK, US and Dutch courts. Including penalties, the amount reached 57 billion dollars.
In May 2020, Russia filed a complaint with the Dutch Supreme Court, demanding that the decision to pay $57 billion to former Yukos shareholders be annulled. In November 2021, the Supreme Court overturned this decision and returned the case to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal.
A source from the Russian government commented on the situation: “We hope to get a fair decision in favor of Russia.”
