Airlines in Russia may be banned from seating parents and their children on planes. A group of United Russia deputies is preparing appropriate amendments to the Air Regulations of the Russian Federation. The newspaper reports this “News”With reference to one of the authors of the initiative, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Issues of Paternity, Motherhood and Childhood Tatyana Butskaya.

According to him, preparations for the bill have just begun and MPs are currently trying to clarify the text of the document. For example, lawmakers have not yet determined what age children this ban should apply to. Now the authors of the initiative are considering various options – for example, for passengers under 12 or 14 years old, and in case of disability – up to 18. At the same time, such a norm for parents should be at least free. Butskaya said low-cost airlines make money from passengers’ seating arrangements on planes.

First of all, he noted, we are talking about flight safety, where children should be close to their parents, not across the aisle or across the row: A child may have difficulty feeding or make noise without adults present.

“Many situations may arise where parents are needed in close proximity. Then come the obvious comfort questions,” the parliamentarian added.
