Almost a third of the oil produced in Russia comes from fields with difficult to recover reserves (TRIZ). This was announced by the chairman of the State Reserve Commission, Igor Shpurov, at a conference in Novosibirsk. Interfax.

According to him, profitable reserves now account for approximately 70% of technically recoverable reserves. Involvement in the development of TRIZ will provide a significant increase in production.

“If we created technologies that would allow us to increase production from these reserves by at least a third, we would have a balance of plus 18.4 billion tons of oil,” Shpurov said.

With the tax incentives applied to TRIZ for more than 10 years, 1.2 billion tons of “black gold” were extracted. From 2008 to 2019, the share of oil obtained from new technologies increased from 35% to 65% of all production.

Fundamentally new technologies are needed for unconventional TRIZ, such as oil source rocks that do not have reservoirs, says the chairman of the State Reserves Committee.

Additionally, in 2023, the TRIZ list included Paleozoic deposits that required special exploration methods. The expert concluded that now the state has switched from tax to non-tax incentives for the development of TRIZ, in particular for the creation of technological test sites.
