Hungary wants to continue the transit of Russian oil to the EU via Ukraine

Peter Szijjártó, head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, said Budapest wants Kiev to continue the transit of Russian oil to Central European countries through its territory. This was reported by TASS.

According to the minister, within the framework of discussions with the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba and the Head of the Presidential Office Andrey Ermak, he asked them to ensure the reliable transportation of oil through Ukrainian territory.

Szijjártó added that at the meeting he raised the issue of Hungarian companies not being included in Ukraine’s list of “international war sponsors”.

Before that, the European Union being ready Russia, which is heading towards the end of the gas transit agreement between Russia and Ukraine at the end of 2024, is exploring alternative routes for gas supply to Europe.

The EU believes that if transit through Ukraine is stopped, even countries most dependent on Russian gas, such as Austria and Slovakia, will be able to find alternative sources.
