The results of a study by Rospotrebnadzor showed that 20% of caviar on the Russian market does not meet the requirements. The newspaper writes about this “News”referring to the meeting minutes of the public council affiliated with the ministry.
As stated in the document, according to estimates of the Financial Research Institute of the Ministry of Finance of Russia, the total share of illegally sourced caviar in the domestic market is 20%, according to the National Research University of the Higher School of Economics – over 27%.
“According to the results of laboratory researchers at Rospotrebnadzor, approximately 20% of caviar does not meet the mandatory requirements,” the document states.
It is stated that the majority of fake caviar is of foreign origin and is sold as a Russian product after being repackaged.
The protocol also states that this type of caviar is cheaper to produce, but significantly inferior in quality: due to unfavorable conditions for fish farming, second-class food, hormones, antibiotics and GMOs.
