Russia ranked fourth among 34 European countries by unemployment rate in 2023. A related study was carried out RIA NewsBased on reports of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Of the 34 countries analysed, 19 saw an increase in unemployment.
Unemployment in Russia has decreased significantly in recent years. The unemployment rate in the country dropped from 3.7% at the end of 2022 to 2.9% at the end of 2023.
According to the research, the lowest unemployment at the end of last year was recorded in Malta, where the rate of people in need of work was 2.5 percent. Next come the Czech Republic and Poland (2.6% and 2.8% respectively).
At the end of 2023, the highest unemployment rate was recorded in Spain (12%), Greece (9.6%) and Sweden (8%).
Among the reasons for high unemployment, experts list the consequences of quarantines during the coronavirus epidemic and the consequences of inflation as a result of disruption of supply chains, as well as the refusal of European enterprises to cooperate with Russia in the energy sector.
