Former military unit commander Alexey Kozhevnikov was found guilty of negligence that led to a fire and the explosion of artillery ammunition in a warehouse near Ryazan in 2020. The Ministry of Defense estimated the damage from the incident at more than 21 billion rubles and demanded the recovery of this amount from the convict, he writes TASS.
However, the Military Court of the Ryazan Garrison partially covered the civil suit, collecting from Kozhevnikov only 4 million rubles in favor of the Ministry of Defense.
Civil claims of the two victims for approximately 3.85 million rubles were rejected by the court.
A result in the beginning imputed Kozhevnikov is accused of abuse of power and is therefore sentenced to ten years in prison. However, the court ruled that the former unit commander was liable under Part 2 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence resulting from serious harm to human health). The court decision states that Kozhevnikov will be deprived of the right to hold positions in the Armed Forces and economic activities.
