The President and Chairman of the Board said that Sberbank will transition from a financial organization to a people-based, people-centered organization.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sberbank German Gref at the plenary session “The financial sector as the basis of stability of the Russian economy” during Finance Day at the international fair and forum “Russia” held at VDNKh.

According to the president of the company, in every Sber customer it is necessary to see, first of all, a person “in terms of the entire diversity of needs, concerns, wishes and the need to solve certain life situations.”

Referring to the path followed in the development of the bank, German Gref reminded that 20 years ago, the average waiting time at a Sberbank branch was 40 minutes. Even performing the simplest operation took a lot of time. He stated that such a problem has not been experienced for a long time.

The company’s president described 2024 as one of three turning points in Sber’s development. According to him, the first was 2014, when the bank completed the centralization of all its systems, and the second was 2020, when the company completely switched to digitalization of services.

German Gref reported that at the end of 2023, Sber’s supervisory board approved a new development strategy for the bank; The main thesis here was the need to create an ecosystem of services not only around the financial or customer, but also around the person.

“Behind every legal entity or individual who enters our resources or crosses our threshold, there is a person,” the company’s president added.

He noted that previously the vast majority of Sber employees were mainly involved in processing transactions.

“The bank managed to create the first digital services that are market standard today. Moreover, P2P transactions, that is, money transfer from person to person without going to the bank, were invented in Russia,” said German Gref, attracting the attention of the audience.

Sberbank President also added that Russia leads the world in terms of lending speed.

“No one in the world can provide loans to small businesses in 3 minutes and other corporate customers in 7 minutes. Today, 80 percent of our loans are provided under these conditions. “It was impossible to even imagine this 4-5 years ago, but today this is the market standard,” he said.

Gref called biometrics the next breakthrough – in his opinion, after its widespread implementation, bank cards will become a thing of the past.
