In the last days of December and during the New Year holidays, attacks by financial fraudsters against Russians will intensify. This forecast was given to socialbites.ca by Senior Vice President Nikita Chugunov, Head of the Digital Business Department of VTB.

According to him, there was no significant increase in the number of fraud attacks at the beginning of December, since it is becoming increasingly difficult for fraudsters to carry them out, given the development of bank security systems. VTB senior manager said that in the last days before the New Year, citizens are in a pre-holiday rush and are more relaxed during the holidays, and fraudsters can take advantage of this.

He advised the Russians not to err on the side of caution and not to proceed with a meeting that looked suspicious.

“Why would you waste your holiday on this? Do not share your personal and private information, including your banking information. This is a fairly clear and simple set of recommendations that will help protect your funds in most cases,” noted the banker.

He added that most phishing attacks now use themes of promotions, gift sales, buying cinema and theater tickets and organizing holidays. Phone scammers often pose as mobile operators and express the need to renew a contract or receive a bonus. The goal of fraudsters is to gain access to the subscriber’s personal account and find access codes for various services, including mobile banking.

Chugunov concluded that fraudsters target all categories of customers, but mostly they “catch” people aged 30-40 who are more willing to make financial transactions.

Before that the Central Bank named Four schemes of “socialbites.ca” scammers to steal money from Russians before the New Year.
