France has broken a record in electricity exports in a single day since 2019. On December 22, the country sent 18.68 megawatts of electricity to neighboring states. TV channel reports this BFMTV.
The previous daily maximum value in France’s electricity exports was recorded as 17,415 megawatts in February 2019. As BFMTV noted, the record was achieved thanks to the warm weather and the start-up of a number of nuclear reactors in France.
On the contrary, France imported record amounts of electricity in 2022. However, the situation changed at the beginning of 2023. The share of wind generation in the electricity generation structure also increased from 10% to 25%.
Before this, it was known that nuclear power plants in France had to produce at least 50 GWh to survive the winter; today they produce only 40 gigawatt-hours. At the same time, Emmanuel Vargon, president of the French Energy Regulatory Committee (CRE), announced plans to reach 45 GWh of production by January 2024.
