There are currently no prerequisites for the complete lifting of the ban on winter diesel fuel exports from Russia. Nikolai Shulginov, head of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation, announced this on Saturday, TASS reported.

The Minister answered negatively to journalists’ questions regarding the existence of preconditions for lifting the ban. The decision was taken due to the risk of diesel fuel shortages in remote regions of Russia due to supply problems in the north due to sanctions. According to experts, the continuation of the ban will help control domestic fuel prices, which are increasing at a record pace in 2023.

Previously, the Russian government lifted the ban on the export of gasoline and summer diesel fuel due to the stabilization of the situation in the domestic market. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak instructed oil workers to increase the production of winter diesel for the country’s needs ahead of the heating season.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the current winter diesel fuel reserves in Russia are 1.4 million tons. The institution predicts that preconditions will emerge for the partial removal of export restrictions, taking into account domestic demand in the first quarter of 2023.

Before that Mishustin said About the impact of restricting fuel exports.
