Gazprom sharply increases gas supplies to China through Power of Siberia

Gas supplies to China via Russia’s Power of Siberia gas pipeline have increased significantly since mid-November, the company said. Gazprom on the official Telegram channel following talks with the Chinese CNPC.

The increase in volumes occurred due to a previously signed additional agreement to the existing contract.

As mentioned, from the beginning of 2024, a new increase in supply is planned through the Power of Siberia – up to 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year, compared to 22 billion cubic meters in 2022.

During the talks, the parties also discussed the implementation of a cross-border gas pipeline project from Russia to China via Mongolia with a capacity of up to 50 billion cubic meters per year. In addition, joint work on the construction of the natural gas pipeline along the “Far East” route along the Ussuri River continues.

Currently, Gazprom supplies 38 billion cubic meters of Russian gas annually to China under a 30-year contract. Exports started in December 2019. The decision to increase volumes was taken to meet the growing demand of Chinese consumers.
