Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law introducing the “take or pay” principle for long-term gas supply. The publication reports that “Kommersant”.

The “take or pay” norm is that the supplier undertakes to provide a guaranteed quantity of gas, while the buyer undertakes to pay the full specified volume of fuel, regardless of how much he actually purchased.

The law also provides for the priority right of the category of industrial consumers to conclude contracts. As noted in the publication, this category includes industrial consumers who commission new facilities, produce products, and generate heat or electricity.

According to the text of the signed law, regional authorities will be able to influence the transition of consumers to alternative energy sources.
