USA restricts imports of three more Chinese companies due to “forced labor”

The United States has restricted imports from three more Chinese companies over forced labor practices involving Uyghurs and other minorities. The agency reported that Reuters.

COFCO Sugar Holding, China’s largest processor of agricultural products, is among the companies whose goods are banned.

Imports of its products into the United States and those of two other companies will be restricted due to what US officials describe as “the ongoing genocide of minorities in China’s Xinjiang region.”

With the addition of COFCO Sugar Holding, Sichuan Jingweida Technology Group and Anhui Xinya New Materials to the sanctions list, the total number of companies on the list will increase to 30.

Since June 2022, U.S. Customs and Border Protection has inspected more than 6,000 shipments valued at more than $2 billion following the passage of the Essential Labor Security Act, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The law bans imports of goods from publicly traded companies unless they prove their products were not produced using forced labor.
