Sun Kui, head of the Contemporary China-Russia Regional Economic Research Institute, said that the demand for Russian gas will also increase as China expands its gas pipeline network and switches to environmentally friendly energy sources. A Chinese newspaper reported this Global Times.
The expert stated that more and more Chinese cities are abandoning coal and oil and switching to environmentally friendly natural gas. Therefore, the demand for gas in the Chinese market will increase rapidly.
According to Song Kui, gas demand from Russia will increase further when the pipeline under construction reaches cities in the Yangtze River Delta and eventually Shanghai.
The expert expressed the view that joint efforts in the energy sector will continue to be a central element of economic and trade interaction between China and Russia. He noted that bilateral projects on natural gas are a “prominent” example of cooperation between the countries.
