For the New Year holiday, scammers created thousands of cloned websites to deceive Russians. The newspaper writes about this “News”.
According to the publication, on the eve of the New Year holidays, citizens spend large amounts of money on purchasing tickets, coupons and services, and more and more transactions are carried out remotely. However, New Year’s tourism is marred by fraud.
Over the past few years, Russians have begun to actively travel during the New Year holidays, which has led to rapid purchases of tickets, vouchers and mass hotel reservations in late autumn and early winter.
“Recently we have seen signs of online fraud in the field of flight ticket sales. Attackers actively use groups on social networks and instant messengers to advertise discounts allegedly provided by well-known airlines and tour operators,” said Diana Selekhina, expert at Solar AURA Center for Monitoring External Digital Threats of the Solar Group.
“We have also noticed telegram bots that allow scammers to create fake websites offering discounts on airline tickets. This trend will gain momentum during the New Year holidays,” added Diana Selehina.
Previously, a representative of the Real Ticket.RF service reported similar cases of fraud “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”. He noted that fake sites and pages became active on social networks before the New Year, and their number increased significantly.
According to the expert, scammers often operate on social networks through fake accounts of well-known travel brands. More than 100 suspicious sources were blocked over 11 months. A similar situation is observed in the field of hotel reservations.
“The sale is done on fake pages that look like official websites,” a police officer told the newspaper. He added that this problem occurs every year.
Very often Russians are deceived when buying tickets to the main New Year trees in Russia. A representative of law enforcement agencies emphasized that you need to check the reliability of the source several times before paying.
Russians are deceived not only in capital cities, but also when buying tickets for shows and concerts. For example, the Chuvash State Philharmonic Orchestra warned on social networks that scammers were collecting money for a fake Christmas tree concert on behalf of the administration.
