Germany looks for economic salvation in the South American market

Representatives of the German economy are in favor of concluding a free trade agreement between the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR) and the EU as soon as possible. This was reported by TASS Referring to the statements of representatives of German business associations.

According to them, many companies hope that the meeting of the leaders of Germany and Brazil, as well as the economic ministers, will mean that a positive outcome of the negotiations is approaching. The agreement must be signed before the end of 2023, otherwise there is a risk of delay in this process.

Volker Traier, Head of the Foreign Economic Service of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that the agreement will open opportunities for Germany to diversify new markets and supply chains.

According to the chamber, approximately 12.5 thousand German companies currently export their products to MERCOSUR countries. The association covers more than 70% of the territory of South America with a population of 295 million.
