According to the publication, as of November 2023, almost 20% of debtors in Russia are under threat of bankruptcy. At the same time, the number of potential debt defaulters among this category of citizens increased by 11%, reaching 9.79 million people.

Analysts noted that bankruptcy also threatens many microfinance institutions (MFOs). The publication writes that at the beginning of November, the total debt of individuals whose loans were overdue for 90 days or more was 6.33 trillion rubles.

If the amount of debt is not less than 25 thousand rubles and not more than 1 million rubles, the relevant federal law comes into force. The minimum amount previously reached 50 thousand rubles, and the maximum reached 500 thousand rubles.

The law also allows citizens and retirees whose sole income consists of social payments to file a personal bankruptcy case outside the court one year after the start of compulsory debt collection, while for other citizens this period will be seven years.
