American retailer Walmart has sharply increased the volume of imports from India to the US this year, while also reducing China’s share of supplies. This is evidenced by data from the Import Yeti service that the agency reviewed. Reuters.

From January to August 2023, Walmart imported a quarter of all goods coming into the United States from India. In 2018, this figure was only 2%. At the same time, China’s share fell from 80 percent to 60 percent.

“We want to get the best prices from suppliers. This means I need supply chain flexibility and can’t rely on a single supplier or location,” said Andrea Albright, Walmart Vice President of Purchasing.

According to him, India has become an important element in the diversification strategy by ensuring the right balance of price and quality. The company has already invested billions of dollars to expand local manufacturing and plans to import $10 billion worth of Indian goods annually by 2027.
