Overall, Moscow imported a total of $262.5 million worth of whiskey in the nine months since the beginning of this year, almost quadrupling compared to the same period last year, according to the agency.
At the same time, Latvia became the leader in the supply of the mentioned drink to the territory of Russia. Local companies shipped $190.6 million worth of products, a more than sixfold increase from last year.
“Second-placed Lithuania also increased its supply volume significantly, shipping nine times more whiskey in monetary terms than last year – $28.9 million,” the publication says.
England and France ranked third and fourth in terms of the amount of whiskey supplied to the country. As stated in the material, they imported products worth $10.4 million and $7 million respectively.
As the president of the Ladoga company Veniamin Grabar said, Latvia’s leadership in the ranking of the largest suppliers is associated with the re-export of products. Due to sanctions, many foreign companies do not want to take risks and point to the Baltic Republic as the final destination of the beverages.
