Head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, Josef Sikela, said that local companies continue to buy gas from Russia despite there being no demand. He wrote this on social networks.
“This week, from the monthly data of the ERU (Energy Regulatory Authority), we learned that, despite this, some trading companies from Russia have started supplying us with gas since October. “In general, by the end of October, gas from the Russian Federation accounted for 1.2% of the total supply of 2023,” said Sikela, arguing that the Czech Republic has created gas reserves for the winter and does not need supply from Russia.
Sikela added that end consumers of gas should be informed that they are purchasing gas from suppliers that purchase Russian gas. The Czech minister admitted that EU sanctions have not been imposed on gas from Russia because some countries have not yet been able to reject it, and called for a national ban to be considered.
