But he emphasized that socially important subsidy programs, including regional flights and flights to Kaliningrad and the Far East, will continue to operate. In addition, subsidies for airports in central and southern Russia in 2024 may be extended in case of prolonged closure.
Over the past two years, Russian airlines have received more than 125 billion rubles for reimbursement of operating costs of domestic flights. Previously, the Ministry of Transport had stated that the extension of such a support measure would be decided depending on the financial and economic situation of the carriers.
“Data on air traffic volumes this year show that the demand for aviation among the population is high,” said the press service of the Ministry of Transport. “In January-October 2023, Russian airlines carried approximately 90 million passengers, which is 3 million more than the planned figure for this period.” According to the Ministry’s estimates, passenger traffic volume will reach 103-104 million people by the end of 2023.
