The Russian wholesale energy market can allocate 31.025 billion rubles in 2024 to prevent the increase in electricity tariffs in the Far Eastern Federal District. The basic tariff for high-voltage commercial consumers in the Far Eastern Federal District will be 6.83 rubles per kilowatt per hour (plus 8.9% on an annual basis). For low and medium voltage consumers, the tariff will be set at 8.06 rubles per kilowatt-hour (plus 9.1%). The final payment amount will be decided by the government commission responsible for the development of the electric energy sector.
FAS clarified that the mechanism will not affect tariffs on the Far Eastern population.
In 2017, a program to reduce electricity tariffs was launched in the Far East. The “Far Eastern surcharge” applied to prices in the European, Ural and Siberian regions of Russia subsidizes a lower tariff in the constituent units of the Far Eastern Federal District, in particular in the Kamchatka, Chukotka, Yakutia, Sakhalin and Magadan regions. While subsidies were cut by 12% in 2022, they increased by 5.7% this year.
