The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation supported the initiative of the State Duma on the introduction of minimum retail prices (MRP) for beer, mead, cider and poire. It is assumed that the MRC will protect the domestic market from low-quality products and at the same time close the path to gray imports, the newspaper reported “News”.
Alexander Stavtsev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Association of Retail Market Experts and head of the WineRetail center, believes that by introducing MRP, the state is taking into account the interests of buyers of draft beer, mead and cider. The goal is also to protect market participants from the dumping of colleagues who can make beer not only from hops and malt.
Andrey Yakushev, General Director of Cider House LLC, explains that the need for the MRC arises from the fact that with all existing mechanisms to control trade, the authorities cannot defeat the gray market. Tracking sales of tap beer and beer beverages is technically difficult.
Experts say that the introduction of MRP may increase the cost of beer in the economy segment, but not by more than 10-15%.
