“More and more Russians, including young people, understand the harmfulness of bad habits. A decline in demand for nicotine-containing products has been noted not only in the e-cigarette industry, but also in sales of traditional cigarettes. Chek Index press service stated that the frequency of purchasing products from tobacco kiosks in the country decreased by 12% annually.

They announced the end of the active interest of Russians in electronic methods of nicotine consumption, which was observed in the last four to five years.

“In 2022, this demand was supported by the stressful situation against the background of geopolitical events. This year this factor has disappeared. Incentive to quit smoking is provided by the increasing cost of electronic cigarette products, as well as government initiatives to reduce the level of dependence on bad habits. But this affects people with established addictions less,” the press service concluded.

The study was carried out based on the analysis of 55-57 million cash register receipts, of which there are more than 1.1 million online cash registers in Russia. The July-September 2023 period was evaluated in comparison with the same period last year.
