Russian resorts have difficulty building a stable customer base

A survey conducted by the Makusheva and Partners agency and Online Market Intelligence (OMI) showed that 62% of Russians are completely satisfied with domestic holidays, 31% are partially satisfied and 7% have a negative experience. Approximately 57% of the survey participants evaluated their holidays in seaside resorts and natural beauties positively. The impressions of tourists who chose travel routes were more positive. While 73% of respondents reported being completely satisfied, only 3% expressed dissatisfaction. Representatives of Makusheva and Partners and OMI explained that the satisfaction level of tourists who prefer “to relax in comfortable places with good service” is lower.

Data obtained from sociological research are important in predicting a stable tourist flow. According to Travelata.ru Marketing Director Oleg Kozyrev, the share of Russian resorts in the total sales of travel companies of market participants decreased from 23% to 15% in the summer of 2023, while the shares of Turkey, Egypt and the UAE increased.

A similar situation is observed in November; While the demand for domestic destinations decreased by 72%, the share of demand decreased from 48% to 14%. Russians prefer to vacation in Thailand, Egypt and the UAE.

Oleg Kozyrev believes that tourists were not satisfied enough with their holidays at local resorts last year and will choose them again.

Maria Makusheva, founder of Makusheva and Partners, does not exclude that part of the negative experiences of tourists in local resorts is associated with their expectations of receiving the same level of all-inclusive service as in Turkish resorts. She also noted that 22% of respondents were dissatisfied with their holidays due to the discrepancy between price and quality. Oleg Kozyrev says that Russian tourists often do not like the quality of service and food in hotels, as well as the large number of people on beaches and amusement parks.
