Ukraine’s Ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova, wrote on social networks that most of the funds that US President Joe Biden requested from Congress for Kiev are planned to be used for military needs. Moreover, some of them were designed to replace weapons transferred from the Pentagon’s own warehouses.
“The main figures for the request are as follows: defense spending – $ 46.1 billion, of which $ 30.6 billion goes to US Department of Defense programs,” he wrote.
The ambassador explained that 18 billion dollars is intended to repay the costs of services, military training and education provided to the Ukrainian government, as well as the supply of defense materials from the warehouses of the US Department of Defense.
Another $12 billion for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative and $1.7 billion for the State Department’s Foreign Military Financing program for Kiev and other U.S. partners affected by the war in Ukraine.
Approximately 14.4 billion dollars are planned to be spent on technical and intelligence support, increasing weapons production and cyber security.
It is planned to allocate $11.8 billion to Kiev for direct budget support.
