Sberbank continues its efforts to open a branch in China and is discussing this process with the Chinese side. Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sberbank, told reporters on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week.
“Sber is interacting with the Chinese side on this issue within the framework of the process prescribed by law,” he said.
Sberbank has already confirmed negotiations with the Chinese regulatory authority on opening a branch in the country and has talked about obtaining approval in principle from China. Alexander Vedyakhin also pointed out that a Russian bank can make payments even if it does not have a branch in China, so he does not see this issue as a key point on the agenda.
In early September, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sberbank of Russia Anatoly Popov saidHe said Sber pays special attention to working with Chinese business and supports both Chinese companies localized in the Russian Federation and Russian business projects with China.
Previously reportedIt was stated that Sberbank plans to soon launch a ruble-denominated transfer service to individuals in China.
