The British court rejected the Mintz family’s attempt to terminate the case in the Trust case, the press service of the non-core assets bank reported. The final hearing at London’s High Court is scheduled for April 2025.
The Court of Appeal stated that it agreed with the trial judge’s opinion that the sanctions did not deprive the fundamental right of access to justice. The court also emphasized that the Trust, like other Russian parties (including those subject to sanctions), had the right to have its claims assessed in the UK.
“The decision of the British Court of Appeal reaffirmed its commitment to justice and the inviolability of the principles of international law. The Foundation is confident that it will be successful in this case, as it was in the LCIA case, in which members of the Mintz family were accused of being fraudsters. We will continue to demand compensation for damages and restore justice in the case of the Mints family and their accomplices,” commented the press service of the Trust non-core asset bank.
The court also refused to annul the freezing of the Mintz family’s assets, valued between $300 and $400 million. Specifically, we’re talking hotels in the UK, six residences in the UK and France, a yacht, art and jewellery.
The court also ordered the family to cover the bank’s legal expenses regarding the objection. We are talking about a request for collection of losses in connection with transactions carried out in Otkritie Bank and Rost Bank in August 2017.
