The Russian government has proposed increasing the excise tax on cigarettes by 3% from planned rates from 2024. This is stated in draft amendments To the Tax Code of the Russian Federation published in the electronic database of the State Duma.

According to the explanatory note, the bill foresees an increase in the excise tax rate on tobacco products and tobacco as of January 1, 2024.

According to amendments to the Tax Code adopted at the end of July, the excise tax on cigarettes and cigarettes from January 1 to December 31, 2024 was supposed to be 2,731 rubles per 1 thousand pieces plus 16% of the estimated cost. According to the new proposals, next year the excise duty may be 2,813 rubles per 1 thousand pieces plus 16% of the estimated cost, but not less than 3,820 rubles.
