The share of the dollar in international payments made with the SWIFT system reached 48.03% in August, breaking a new historical record. This is proven by the analyzed SWIFT data. RIA News.

Compared to July, the share of the dollar increased by 1.57 points. Thus, the American currency continues to strengthen its position in international payments. At the same time, the share of the euro fell to a historical low of 23.2% in August, a loss of 1.22 points. The main reason for this was the declining popularity of the euro outside the eurozone. At the same time, the Chinese yuan achieved a record performance. Its share increased from 3.06% in the previous month to 3.47% at the end of August.

In mid-September, a former IMF economist said in an interview with the German newspaper Welt that the elimination of the dollar in the world in the last 15 years grew up 10 times. According to the expert, the dollar has lost about 11 percentage points as a share of foreign exchange reserves since 2016. The expert described the freezing of Moscow’s dollar reserves as one of the main events that caused this process.
