In the January-August period of this year, Ukraine imported 64.2 thousand tons of vegetables worth 60.4 million dollars and 9.4 thousand tons of fruits worth 8.8 million dollars from Poland.
“As a result, Polish companies supply the neighboring country with an average of $8.7 million worth of such products every month, compared to $8.2 million a year ago,” the agency writes.
Onion producers will mainly suffer from a possible supply ban. It accounts for 23% of all fruit and vegetable supplies from Poland to Ukraine. Producers of tomatoes (20% of supplies), frozen vegetables and root vegetables (12% each), and cabbage (9%) will also suffer losses.
The embargo for Kiev will not be without consequences either, since Warsaw is one of the main sources of frozen vegetables, pears, quinces, apples, legumes and onions, as well as canned food.
