Increasing VAT to 20% on burgers and other fast food products will not lead to higher prices for consumers. In a conversation we had with the publication on this subject “To climb” said Sergei Mironov, president of the Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers.
According to him, the new rate will affect only large chains such as Vkusno, Rostic’s and Burger King, which have a turnover of more than 2 billion rubles per year. The remaining businesses will continue to pay 10% VAT or be exempted entirely.
Mironov noted that the tax service has long considered it wrong to classify burgers as bakery products, since the share of bread in them is negligible. Now the ministry has decided to fix this.
The expert is also confident that there will be no significant increase in burger prices as VAT is not a major factor in pricing in the segment.
Representatives of the major chains have confirmed that they will pay 20% VAT, but have not yet announced plans to increase prices.
