The vast majority of buyers of new buildings in Russia (93%) pay attention to the height of the apartment ceiling. At the same time, 81% are ready to reject the deal if they consider the ceiling height to be insufficient. This is the results of a joint survey between the development company TOUCH and the real estate company BEST-Novostroy were received by the editors of socialbites.ca.
Only 7% of Russians are not interested in ceiling height when buying a new home. While 63% of respondents stated that the minimum acceptable ceiling height in an apartment is 2.8 meters, a third of new home buyers are not ready to consider apartments with ceilings below three metres. At the same time, 82% of the survey participants are not satisfied with the ceiling height of the apartment they live in.
Only 50% of respondents are willing to pay more for an apartment with a higher ceiling, while the remaining 50%, all else being equal, would prefer a cheaper apartment but with a lower ceiling.
“High ceilings have always been considered an integral feature of high-status housing and an important factor determining the level of comfort. But in Soviet times, ceilings with a height of 3 meters could be found only in “Stalin” buildings, and these were isolated examples on the scale of mass development, where the ceiling height was exactly around 2.4-2.6 meters,” said the founder of BEST -New building” Irina Dobrokhotova.
Currently, the average ceiling height in the primary market in the mass segment is about 2.8 m, while for new business class buildings this is the minimum in the market.
The companies conducted a survey among their customers in September 2023.
