British American Tobacco (BAT) sells its business in Russia and Belarus Message companies.
“BAT has formally signed an agreement to sell its businesses in Russia and Belarus in accordance with local and international laws,” the company said in a statement.
It was noted that the buyer is a consortium led by the BAT Russia administration. The deal is expected to be completed next month.
After the sale of the business, BAT will no longer have a presence in Russia and Belarus and will not profit from continued sales.
It produces cigarette brands BAT, Dunhill, Kent, Vogue, Rothmans, Pall Mall, Lucky Strike, Java. All trademarks will belong to Russian enterprises.
Prior to this, the US Department of Justice fine British American Tobacco for $629 million for shipment to North Korea.
