A division of KazMunayGas, the state’s national oil and gas company, purchased tankers to transport oil across the Black and Caspian Seas. This was stated by the country’s Deputy Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov: he is writing Bloomberg.
Akkenzhenov said KazMunayGas has purchased two ships of 8,000 tons each and will purchase two more tankers, each capable of carrying 80,000 tons of fuel. He added that although this route is the most profitable route for crude oil exports, Kazakhstan is exploring supply alternatives through the Caspian Pipeline Consortium. In 2022, CPC exported 80% of the republic’s oil, but volumes decreased by about 1% compared to 2021.
Kazakhstan has exported 300 thousand tons of fuel oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline extending from Azerbaijan to Turkey and the Caspian Sea since the beginning of the year. Domestic producers plan to procure approximately 1.5 million tons through alternative routes by the end of the year. About 40.5 million tons were exported through CPC.
Between January and March, Kazakhstan passed through Russia and shipped 163.4 thousand tons of oil via the Aktau-Baku sea route; this figure was six times higher than the previous year. reported Reuters cites Refinitiv data and industry sources. According to the agency, despite the small volumes of deliveries from the republic, it increased rapidly last year due to the start of a special operation. While the amount of supply from alternative routes was 638 thousand tons in 2021, it reached 1.8 million tons in 2022.
Former Energy Minister of Kazakhstan Achkulakov declarationOil pumping through the CPC is projected to reach its maximum capacity by the end of 2024.
